Eagle Lake First Nation

The English and Wabigoon Rivers Remediation Funding Act, 2017 set aside $85 million in trust to support the cleanup of mercury contamination in the English and Wabigoon Rivers—a long-standing issue that has deeply affected nearby communities. The Act also created the English and Wabigoon Rivers Remediation Panel, a group that brings together five First Nations and the Province of Ontario to provide advice to the Minister of the Environment, Conservation and Parks and to guide how the trust is used.

EnCompass Environmental supports Eagle Lake First Nation as an active and informed voice on the Panel. We help ensure Eagle Lake is well-supported to participate in discussions, build relationships with other First Nations and government partners, and make shared decisions about how to restore the health of the Rivers. We also act as the Technical Subcommittee (TSC) Liaison chairing TSC meetings and helping to bring forward science and knowledge in a clear and collaborative way.
