Hydro One is building a new single-circuit 230 kilovolt transmission line to increase power supply in northwestern Ontario between Thunder Bay and Dryden. Hydro One is completing the project in partnership with nine First Nations.

EnCompass Environmental has been retained by Gwayakocchigewin Limited Partnership (GLP), which is a consortium of seven First Nations, who will have the opportunity to invest in an equity stake in the transmission line once it is constructed. We provide technical advisory support to the GLP First Nations throughout the Environmental Assessment, permitting, and monitoring phases of the project. EnCompass Environmental works closely with each First Nation to ensure their Indigenous Knowledge, worldview, and priorities are meaningfully incorporated into the assessment of environmental impacts and the adoption of mitigation strategies.

The project is currently under construction and we continue to advise the GLP First Nations so Hydro One’s commitments are upheld and the project advances in a good way.
